  • Manages root zone moisture, making the most efficient use of irrigation and rainfall.
  • Treats up to 14,800 sq. ft.

Description

Hydretain manages root zone moisture, making the most efficient use of applied irrigation and rainfall. Its simple mechanism protects plants from the harmful effects of drought stress, reducing disease pressure and root shrinkage. Hydretain will result in healthy, disease resistant turf that will improve the overall quality of your landscaping.

How it Works

A Hydretain molecule has the unique ability to attract, hold, and then transfer water molecules into plant roots. One end of the Hydretain molecule anchors itself to soil particles and root hairs, coating their surface. The other end is available to grab free water molecules from humid air circulating in the soil.

Once Hydretain has grabbed a water molecule, it releases it into the plant’s root throughout osmosis preventing it from being lost to evaporation or leaching. Because the Hydretain molecule is too large to fit through the cell wall of the root, it is left behind where it is free to grab another water molecule. This process is repeated over and over again, continually supplying the plants with water.

Hydrophobic soils are caused by organic matter (i.e. lipids, proteinaceous compounds, humic acid, fulvic acids, alignins, and suberin) that coat the soil particles and repel water. Because Hydretain is able to adhere to these compounds, water molecules are drawn to these hydrophobic areas, restoring the natural capillary action of the soil matrix that brings plant available water to the root system.

Excess Moisture & Disease

Hydretain does not hold excess water in the root zone and therefore does not promote disease. It also will not change the water holding capacity of percolation of the soil matrix (except in the case of severely hydrophobic soils as above).

Wetting Agents, Penetrants and Polymers

Hydretain is not a wetting agent, polymer, penetrant, or antitranspirant. No other product has the ability to hold and actually attract free water molecules, and then release them through osmosis into the roots of your plants. It is a truly unique compound that has no equal.

Minimizes Localized Dry Spot

Hydretain minimizes localized dry spot by restoring the natural capillary action of the water within the soil matrix. This increases the lateral movement of water in the root zone and brings plant available water to the root system.

Increases Watering Efficiency

Hydretain increases watering efficiency by managing root zone moisture throughout the day. In independent tests Hydretain has reduced watering by up to 50% for ornamental plants and turf grasses.

Grassing and Ornamental Plant Installations

Hydretain is a perfect value-added addition to new turf and landscaping establishment projects. It will help keep projects from drying out between waterings, which is especially important during the initial transplant period, when constant watering is impractical and labor intensive.
Hydretain has been proven to improve seed germination and seedling survival in restricted water germination tests. The end result is greater germination and faster establishment of seedlings as well as sprigs and sod.

Reduces Fungus, Algae & Disease

By reducing over-watering, Hydretain lowers the moisture levels in the thatch layer and minimizes the conditions that cause fungus, algae, and disease.

Environmentally Friendly

Hydretain is fully biodegradable. It contains no phosphates, petrochemical derivatives or other toxic fractions, which may cause ground water runoff or contamination.

Directions

For use on all types of plants : Turf, trees, flowers, shrubs, fruit and vegetable gardens and agricultural crops, etc. – field grown and containerized.

Application Instructions: Application prior to plant stress is recommended for optimized plant protection; however, Hydretain ES Plus can be used any time during the plants’ life cycle. Applications performed at the time of planting, seeding, sodding or transplanting will also improve plant establishment.

For Best Results: Irrigation immediately after application is recommended; however, within 3-5 days is acceptable. When watering in, it is imperative to irrigate thoroughly allowing Hydretain ES Plus to completely penetrate and saturate the root zone. This product will not become functional until it is properly watered in.

To prevent mower pick-up, delay mowing until product has been watered in by irrigation or rainfall. Water thoroughly when rewatering Hydretain ES Plus treated plants. For extended effectiveness, reapply every three months or every six weeks at a 1/2 rate (after initial full rate application).

Additional applications may be required as the necessity for more frequent irrigation increases. Reapply Hydretain ES Plus Granular QD if reduction in watering is not apparent within the first two weeks. A proper fertilization program will enhance the activity of Hydretain ES Plus.

Turf: Hydretain ES Plus Granular QD can be applied to established turf, or at the time of seeding, sodding, or sprigging. The recommended application rate of Hydretain ES Plus Granular QD is 120 pounds per acre (2.7 pounds per 1,000 square feet) and repeated every 3 months or as needed. For greater efficiency or exceptionally difficult soils, reapply every six weeks at a 1/2 rate following the initial full rate application.

Large Planters & Gardens: (where plants are planted close together): Apply Hydretain ES Plus Granular QD at a rate of 1 pound per 100 square feet of planter bed. Apply topically for existing beds. For new plantings, Hydretain may be mixed into soil prior to planting or spread topically after planting.

Shrubs, Individual Plants, Potted or Containerized Plants: Apply Hydretain ES Plus Granular QD at a rate of 1 pound per cubic foot of planting media either topically or mixed into planting media at time of planting.

Trees: Apply Hydretain ES Plus Granular QD at a rate of 1.5 to 2 pounds for each caliper inch. Apply evenly from the base of the tree just past the drip line for existing trees. Hydretain ES Plus Granular QD may be mixed with the planting medium for transplanting trees or applied topically after planting and then watered in.

Application Equipment and Instructions: *IMPORTANT: These settings are only approximate. Age, condition of spreader, and operator speed can cause wide variation. Be sure to calibrate your spreader with each application. Apply this product with drop or rotary spreaders designed to apply granular materials.

Before each application, calibrate the spreader according to the equipment manufacturer's directions for adjusting the spreader settings such that the spreader delivers the appropriate application rate recommended above. Apply product uniformly over the lawn or area to be treated.

A more uniform application can be made by spreading half of the required amount over the area and then applying the remaining half at a right angle to the previous direction. Avoid streaking or skips during application. Check equipment frequently to ensure equipment is functioning properly and applying uniform distribution of granules.
